University PRANK
leaves
Sakeena Joosub 'jumping.'
by Afsana Mohammed
18 February 2011
The University of Johannesburg has once again called members of the community to initiate 'protective measures,' amongst students residing at the University. This comes only after days that the University opened it's doors to 'new students...' Local Lenasia resident Sakeena Joosub once again called Footprints in Lenasia claiming that the 'young boys,' were toying with her after university hours.
The young boys decided to play a prank on Joosub on the evening of 14th February 2011. According to Joosub, she says that she spent the evening at a local cafe 'Cats Pajamas.' Joosub claims that after she tucked herself into bed and was praying to the Almighty a snake pounced on her from nowhere. This was a total surprise to Joosub as she normally locks the door before she sleeps... According to Joosub she says that the young boys had planted the snake in her bedroom while she was away. Although residents from the University claim that the snake was not poisonous Joosub 'jumped,' in the early hours of the morning.
"Why would these silly boys put a snake in my bedroom and cause me harm... I was lucky that the snake did not spit it's venom into me." she said.
According to reports from the Deen of the University of Johannesburg the snake belonged to Bcom resident Ismail Takolia. The University says that Takolia had kept the snake in his room as a pet and often showed it off to residents from the University...
Joosub now says that she is too scared to live alone at the University and cannot wait to complete her BSc degree in June 2011. Speaking to Footprints in Lenasia, Joosub says that 'it's not funny that these clowns do these things to me'. I am a good woman and I joined the University to better my education background and not to focus on a bunch of monkeys who think they know it all...
The University has since then barred the snake of the University grounds since the incident.

ABSA BANK SET TO LOOSE 5 percent in 2011.
by Nishaat Abrahams
28 February 2011
ABSA BANK LTD is said to loose almost five percent in 2011 as 'new banks,' in the country plan to open in coming months. This comes after tenders were received by the South African Reserve Bank. According to ABSA BANK LTD Ceo Mario Ramos she says that the country was stemming into banking franchises to provide investors with an 'equal opportunity,' to finance mechanisms...
The ABSA BANK LTD share price reflected a price of 87000c this morning and economists claim that the share could loose up-to five percent of it's value in 2011..This has caused concern to 'key backers,' of ABSA BANK LTD... In a statement to Footprints in Sandton local economist Michael Kernel says that the share would recover if the South African Reserve Bank does not reduce interest rates in the next quarter.
"The market has already priced in a drop in interest rates in the next quarter. This could be tricky to investors who have already short the ABSA BANK LTD share." said the economist...
Whilst shares on the local stock markets have recovered the losses of last year many foreign investors are still pouring their funds into the country.
"South Africa's high-interest rate provides a lucrative investment to foreigners. ABSA BANK LTD has toyed with the media by releasing false press statements about ATM bombings." said local businessman Errol Jones...
ABSA BANK LTD has been accused of many malpractices in the last six months which has dented the companies profile-locally and internationally.
Local business tycoon Richard Clark told Footprints in Sandton that he plans to short all major banking shares for 2011 in a hope to generate a profit for his investors who have invested on behalf of themselves...
If the price of the share were to drop by 5 percent as expected by economists this could generate a 300 percent return for investors in 2011 with the leverage policies that banks offer today.

THE STORY OF SAINT VALENTINE.
by Iqbal Desai
14 February 2011
The story of Saint Valentine dates back from as early as 500 AD. In those days communication and expression of love was shown in ways that perhaps the 'modern man,' would not understand. The story begins in 500 AD where Saint Valentine 'falls in love,' with his beloved woman whom he writes a note to her before he dies. The story begins where SAINT Valentine fell in love with his jailers daughter and expressed his love towards her by posting messages in her cell. In those days men and women were 'sentenced,' to the same prison...
In Todays era man has expressed his love for his woman, his wife, his friend and other elements of his love for his loved one by purchasing roses, gifts and cards that showcase his affection towards her. Speaking to Footprints in Overport local resident Shamima Essop says that she has been married for the last five years and every time the day of Valentines Day approaches she 'sneaks,' special prizes for her husband...
"My husband loves to be spoil't with little things that make a difference. In the last five years we have always enjoyed moments that 'take my breath away." she said.
Whilst Saint Valentine and the day that celebrates Valentines Day-14th of February is widely criticised by the Muslim community many people from South Africa and the rest of the world still 'showcase their love,' on this special day. One reader who spoke to Footprints in Overport said that the community of South Africa should celebrate their love for each other by 'being the best on the special day...'
"The meaning of Valentines day is distoughted yet we should remember our loved ones on this day for who they are today." she said.
Other people who called Footprints in Overport said that one should do extra special things on days that create memories for ones loved one. In a conversation with local community personality Wasim Barbamia he says that his girlfriend always went that 'extra mile to showcase her affection towards him.'
"Our parents taught us certain ways to show our love to the people whom we are attracted to and we should use the skills they have taught us to show our love to our wives, our girlfriends, our friends and our family." Barbamia says.
Speaking to Footprints in Overport local resident Hitesh Lalla said that he will 'wine and dine,' his wife in the comfort of his home with a nice warm meal and a flick.
One reader says that 'perhaps the phrase I love you,' is the greatest phrase in the English language.

Bus Accident Kills Thirteen
by Yasmin Khota
7 February 2011
A bus carrying fifty passengers collided this morning with a mini-bus taxi en-route Johannesburg. The bus driver and twelve passengers were left spot dead when police and ambulance arrived on the scene. According to statements received by Footprints in Sandton the bus was travelling from Pretoria Station to Johannesburg. The bus and the taxi collided at 8:am this morning. It is said that whilst thirteen passengers have died a further seven have been rushed to a nearby hospital.
The grey-hound bus that travels every morning for thousands of residents to surrounding communities faces charges of road negligence by the department of road and safety. This comes after warnings from the department that bus drivers were using lanes that were not supposed to be used on Johannesburg's M1 highway... Speaking to Footprints in Sandton a by-stander said that he seen the bus traveling in the fast lane of the highway and was not too sure what a bus was doing in the fast lane. Minutes later the bus crashed into a taxi en-route to Johannesburg...
"Our country's drivers have to obey road law before attempting to drive a bus. The bus carries a heavy work-load and many people who drive our countries buses are not experienced enough to drive the buses that travel our roads."
Managing Director for Grey Hound South Africa Tim O' Toole said that he will speak to the departments head to discuss why the department was laying a charge on the company as the driver had a valid licence and was traveling below the speed limit of 120km...
"We have to see the footage from the roads to fully understand what caused this accident. Our road insurance fund will allocate an amount of R250-000.00 to the families who have lost their loved ones in this fatal crash." he said...
Whilst the cities road require an investment of R542 million rand in 2011 the country has been sparked with major renovations on the M1 said a local resident.
"Over 10 000 cars travel the M1 on a daily basis and these road accidents create fear for the country's drivers." said one driver.

by Nikita Anderson
17 February 2011
The United Nations is scheduled to meet this weekend on the 26th-28th of February 2011. This comes after intense discussions in South Africa, United States, China, Brazil, India, Australia, Britain and Portugal. The UN holds an annual peace talk to discuss the current spectrum between the Anglo-Saxons and communists. The UN is said to spend $2.5 trillion dollars on the improvement in countries that have left the required spending to international organisations. According to UN secretary general the UN plans to spend the investment into merger agreements that could stem 'flow of foreign currency,' beyond the European Union...
Thousands of delegates are said to attend the meeting including presidents, ministers, celebrities and members of congress... Speaking to Footprints in South Africa local personality Susan Mcdonald says that the UN will have to impose certain laws in countries that have been affected by crime, violence, fraud and corruption. This comes after business leaders in Russia were caught smuggling millions of weapons through American borders. Council in
'Hot Water,' over Eskom arguments.!
24 February 2011
by Jitesh Ramjee
The Gauteng Council is in 'hot water,' with executives serving the Eskom board of directors... This is after false accusations laid by the council to Eskom claiming that the power company was not keeping it's word to promises set out by leaders on the executive board. According to discussions last year Eskom said that they will use an allocated R621 million rand for the development of rural areas in Gauteng. Months have passed and Eskom has done nothing or little work to improve the lifestyle opportunities to residents living in Gauteng...
Eskom-the country's flag ship company will face competition in coming months if certain promises are not kept by local government said local minister Peter Tatania. Speaking to Footprints in Mytowncity Tatania says that Eskom had received a tender from government to improve certain sectors in Gauteng. This is however not the case as R43 million rand has been spent by Eskom with no-improvements to power supplies in communities Laudium, Soweto, Lenasia, Pretoria, Pretoria West, Pretoria North and East-Lynn... Local government said in a statement this morning that Eskom will have to fork out the amount of R43 million rand which was used not for public sector work.
In a conversation with Footprints in Mytowncity, local resident Anupam Kalyan says that water meters were reading higher than normal as Eskom had leaked an increase of 12 percent in water meter readings to provide residents who do not have water and electricity...
"This has caused people like you and me that go to work to pay more for water. What happened to the days where if you have the funds to have water and electricity in your home, you should use it sparingly." he said...
Eskom has said that the company will discuss 'new ways,' of speeding the installation of power generators in local communities once certain agreements are agreed to by the local shareholder in the form of government members...
Local stock broker Nadeem Shivani said that if Eskom continues to toy with government members he will short the Eskom share from February 2011 up-until April 2011...

Social Networking Site leaves Parents complaining.!
by Lameez Chotia
18 February 2011
A social networking site Mirc has created havoc in a local community family. This has outraged the parents of local daughter Nasreen Seedat. Local parents held a meeting this afternoon seeking 'new ways,' of containing their children whilst they live at home. According to the story received by Footprints in Lenasia a local teenager was caught meeting a guy she met on a social networking site...
Nasreen Seedat thought that she wanted to have a date but the local community boys did not posses the 'flair and playboy attitude,' so she decided to download a program Mirc. On this social networking site one can speak and write to as many people on the internet as possible... According to Nasreen she joined the channel #islam whereby she could speak to people in and around her community...Whilst she was on this networking site she offered her contact details to a lad by the name of Osman Latib. Weeks passed and Seedat finally agreed to meet the young lad. The parents of Seedat did not approve of her meeting the lad because she met him on a social site that millions of people visit....
The situation has become that Seedat and Latib have become romantically involved speaking till the late hours in the evening... Speaking to Footprints in Lenasia, Nasreen's father says that he will dis-continue the relationship between his daughter and Latib as his daughter was too young to have a boyfriend...
"My daughter is twenty years old and she is too young to be meeting boys on social network sites... I have spoken to her mother to ban her from using any form of social networking site..." he said.
Mirc developer Khalid Mardem Brey said that he developed the network site over ten years ago to improve the communication levels between the 'young and old,' of the community...
"We developed Mirc with an attitude to empower our youth. We have disclaimers that if you meet a person on the site, you are liable for what happens..." he said.
Other residents from the community said that there was nothing wrong in using the network site to meet new friends and for socializing purposes...
The young girl has since then spoken to Latib to declare their relationship 'null and void...'

Construction plans
for R500 million rand University.!
by Hamida Lakhana
4 February 2011
The planning of a R500 million rand university is slowly gaining momentum as investors from the community have invested a sum of R56 million rand for the first phase of the university... The university is said to be 'world class,' matching standards of Harvard, Yale, Oxford and UNISA. According to reports released by shareholders of the university members say that the allocated amount of R500 million rand will be invested by 'security investors,' and leveraged through Investec...
L A S T month Footprints in Laudium reported the construction of a university in the community and members from the local community called Footprints in Laudium stating that the university was currently being developed by community leaders, businessmen, friends and the general public... "We have schools that have added value to the community and with the launch of the university it would create an awareness in Laudium and surrounding communities..." said Luqmaan Essa...
Other residents from the community say that a university will create an awareness in Laudium as the rest of the world and guests from other countries can visit the country to share their knowledge and skills in the country.
"Other universities offer more than 5000 degree's to students of the country and we can use certain aspects of other universities to implement in our university." said Hemali Pillay a law degree student....
Whilst many leaders from the community say that a university will add value many say that a construction of a 'mini-shopping complex,' added to the university will be the cherry on top...
"Other communities including Lenasia, Menlyn, Brooklyn and Hatfield have the shopping complex's and the university will add a special touch to the community." says Nadeem Karani...
Phase one of the university has already started with architects seeking funding for a further R450 million rand for the project. Pirates
'Attack,' a ship
in Overport...
21 February 2011
by Mafuza Dawood
A ship traveling from India to South Africa was attacked this evening by pirates looming the Indian Ocean. The pirates attacked the ship in the late hours of 20th February 2011 whereby the captain and a large crew were held captive by the pirates. According to statements received by the local media the pirates had attacked the ship and forced members of the ship to ground level where the pirates had changed the location of the trip from South Africa to Somalia...
South Africa's borderlines the Atlantic and Indian Oceans have become a nightmare to ships traveling from other countries into the country's harbor. This has caused concern amongst the shipping industry as billions of rands have been lost through the hijacking of ships on Natal's and Cape Town's coastline. Speaking to Footprints in Overport local resident Sameera Deedat says that last year ships were attacked by pirates but was not reported to the local media.
"It is unfortunate that pirates loom the country's oceans in a hope to takeover the ship and sink it... The captain and his crew were lucky in this instance South African Marine were on call to aid the sailing sailors." she said.
Captain of the ship Marcus Liebenburg said that it was the first time that his ship was attacked after leaving India on February 16th...
"We left India to South Africa after warning's that the ship might be attacked by these pirates. We have recovered some of the stolen goods taken by the pirates." he said.
According to reports the ship was carrying a large quantity of spices, diamonds, gold, accessories, and imported cars to be sold in South Africa.
The Indian High Commission issued a statement last night that the ship was traveling to the country without certain permits and will be insured an amount of R432 million rand although the pirates might of stolen much more from the ship.
Pirates have become a norm sailing the seas of the Indian Ocean that leads to South African borders and government has spent millions of rands in the past decades to protect the shorelines.
